How we added thousands in profitability to our business by getting better office coffee.

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm excited to take a little stroll down memory lane and share a journey that's very close to my heart.

Years ago, I had the privilege of leading a wonderful software development company in Chicago, working with an amazing team and partnering with incredible companies across the country. Among the many things that united us, one stood out: our collective love for coffee.

There was this charming coffee shop just a block away from our office. It became a ritual for us, a delightful pilgrimage we embarked on once in the morning and once later in the day. Whether it was for a pour over, a latte, or an Americano, these coffee runs were an integral part of our daily routine, albeit an expensive one. I remember, when I joined these outings, the bill for the group would easily hit $50.

This routine led to two significant realizations. First, we always aimed to provide the best for our team, but our office coffee was far from the best. Second, the cost – both financially and in terms of productivity – was substantial. We were spending about $1,000 a day in lost hours on these coffee runs, and it was affecting our efficiency and delivery to our clients.

So, we decided to make a change that, back then, seemed quite revolutionary. We chose to invest in our coffee experience. We even explored the realms of nitro cold brew before it became a widespread phenomenon. We had to persuade a local roaster to prepare cold brew in a keg for us. We even bought Guinness-shaped glasses to serve it. The result? It was a phenomenal success. Our employees loved it, our productivity soared, and we even had clients visiting more often, eager to taste our unique coffee offerings.

This transformation had an enormous positive impact on our business. We saw immediate improvements in profitability, and more importantly, in the spirit and energy of our workplace.

This experience planted a seed back in 2014, a seed that has now blossomed into RocketCup Coffee Company. Our vision was to create a remarkable business coffee brand and reimagine the office coffee experience.
